Description
A Steel Fixer (also known as a Rebar Worker) is responsible for cutting
bending
assembling
and fixing steel reinforcement bars (rebar) and mesh into position on construction projects. Their work ensures reinforced concrete structures are strong
safe
and aligned to engineering specifications
Responsibilities
- Reading & Interpreting Drawings: Understand blueprints
- bar bending schedules (BBS)
- and structural plans to determine rebar requirements.
- Cutting & Bending Steel: Use hand tools
- power tools
- and machinery to cut and bend steel rods and mesh to required shapes and sizes.
- Positioning & Fixing: Place reinforcement bars or mesh in concrete forms
- securing them with wire
- clips
- or spacers.
- Structural Alignment: Ensure proper spacing
- overlap
- and alignment of steel reinforcements according to design specifications.
- Formwork Coordination: Work with carpenters and concrete workers to install steel within shuttering/formwork.
